Lonely People
Well, it’s official! Essex has the second highest incidence of lonely people in the UK. There must be so much untapped talent in Havering who would make wonderful befrienders for our charity.
Most of the lonely people known to HfH were and are real stalwarts. Our communities have obviously changed since post war and the paid jobs such as carers, childminders and counselling services now, were undertaken by the kindness of neighbours.
“ I would check on old Mrs X every day. I would get her shopping and light her fire, because she couldn’t walk very well” (Home Care).
“There was a young mother with a new baby who found it so difficult to cope. I told her to come to my house and I helped her look after the baby” (this was possibly post natal depression, not very well recognised by medics then).
“The children next door came in every day after school, because their mum had to work” (childcare). Please support this worthwhile charity.
Come and enjoy our events. Come and talk to us and find out a bit more about what we do!
